Yes, people, I know what friend @cshirky has to say about technology in the classroom. I read it on my laptop.
@jeffjarvis K-12 teaching is way beyond where college teaching/learning is. Stand-up lecture still being the norm speaks ill of higher ed.
@jeffjarvis Kids use tablets/laptops ubiquitously in school now, starting in lower grades. Pencils & paper (& even textbooks) are obsolete.
@jeffjarvis laptops in class is not a problem if the teacher engages with students in a dialogue. Which any decent teacher will do anyway.
That we see laptops as an enemy in education says something about the form we are trying desperately to hold onto.

12 retweets 20 favoritesMy problem w/laptops in class is rudeness to guests. In that case, I tell the students to be polite. Not a technology problem.
7 retweets 10 favoritesMy next problem w/laptops-v-attention argument is that it's up to students to get their worth from education. It's their choice.
7 retweets 14 favoritesMy other problem w/ the laptops-v-lecture argument is that I seldom hear reconsideration of the form of the lecture.
5 retweets 6 favoritesMy problem w/the laptops-in-class-bad argument is that it blames technology. Blame the students. Or the prof.
12 retweets 17 favoritesMaybe the lecture is the issue, not the laptop, professor. http://www.washingtonpost.com/posteverything/wp/2014/12/30/this-year-im-resolving-to-ban-laptops-from-my-classroom/ …
