A decade of comments on Car Talk

We have long enjoyed listening to Car Talk on NPR on the weekends.  Tom and Ray Magliozzi, the brothers who host the show, are very funny and informative.

Until recently, we didn't realize that Car Talk had a rating and comment section on their website which prominently features Lowell's.  You can see what customers have said about us (mostly good!) over the past 10 years.

As always, we are deeply appreciative of support from our customers and community.  Thank you, and please let us know how we can do better!

Lowell’s, until I sold it recently, worked on my T100, always at a relatively affordable cost. Recently, I bought a new Tacoma, and I’d like to modify it, but I wonder if Lowell’s has an opinion on modifications? I’m particularly interested in adding a 3″ inch body lift, and later, larger wheels and tires. Does Lowell’s have an opinion on such matters? Do you recommend specific products? Help me out here…I’m a just-short-of-middle-age dad who wants to stay cool (in a just-short-of-middle-aged way) by driving a cool (probably, unfortunately, only judged so by other just-short-of-middle-age men) Tacoma!
Sheesh, sorry to direct the conversation away from the far more heady topics that this new blog has so far addressed, but you have to understand, the fate of the big three is of minor concern relative to my desire to modify my self-image through modifications to my truck! You agree, right!?

    “I’d rather not”:
We absolutely agree! Your self-image (and your truck) are both precious to us, and we’ll do all we can to help preserve and/or enhance both.
If it isn’t apparent by now, we have opinions on everything — heady topic or not!
I asked Brian (our service advisor and resident ‘modder’) for his thoughts, and we also talked with Ashley’s Wheel and Brake here in Lexington.
Rather than a body lift, we’d recommend a suspension lift. With a true body lift, you actually separate the body from the frame. With a suspension lift, you modify your existing suspension. There’s probably more opportunity for something to go wrong with a body lift…
Ashley’s would do a 2″ level lift in the front of the Tacoma and add a Load Master helper spring to lift the rear.
Ashley’s would also be good for getting the wheels and tires, when you’re ready for those.
We’d recommend that you talk with them to get more details.
